Mobile oil change
A mobile oil change takes the one maintenance job everyone puts off and does it in your driveway. The mobile mechanic brings the correct oil and filter for your engine, changes it where the car sits and gives the rest of the engine bay a once-over while they're there.
01 — Overview
The oil change that comes to you
Nobody enjoys the quick-lube lane. The upsell, the wait, the mystery about what oil actually went in. A mobile oil change replaces all of that with a mechanic in your driveway using the exact oil weight and filter your manufacturer specifies, with the empties left on the ground next to the car if you want to see them.
It's also a chance to catch small things before they become repairs. While the oil drains, the mechanic looks at belts, hoses, the air filter, the battery terminals and the fluid levels. If something's about to fail, you hear about it with a quote, not a hard sell.
Mobile Auto Repair has a local mobile mechanic in 250 cities doing mobile oil changes for individual drivers and fleets. Book a window and keep your day.
02 — Included
What a mobile oil change includes
More than draining and refilling. A proper mobile oil change from one of our mechanics covers:
- Manufacturer-spec oil: conventional, synthetic blend or full synthetic in the correct weight
- New oil filter and drain plug washer, torqued to spec
- Oil life monitor reset so the dash reminder is accurate
- Visual inspection of belts, hoses, air filter, battery and visible leaks
- Top-off of washer fluid and a check of coolant, brake and power steering levels
- Used oil and filter taken away for proper recycling
03 — Which oil
Conventional, blend or full synthetic?
Use what the manufacturer specifies, which for most vehicles built in the last fifteen years is full synthetic in a thin weight like 0W-20 or 5W-30. Full synthetic resists breakdown at high temperatures, flows better on cold starts and stretches change intervals to 7,500 or 10,000 miles on many engines. Older engines designed for conventional oil are fine with conventional or a blend.
The mechanic brings the correct spec for your year, make, model and engine. If you've been running something different, they'll tell you what the manual calls for and why it matters. Turbocharged and direct-injection engines in particular are hard on oil and benefit from the right synthetic.
04 — While it drains
What else gets checked during a mobile oil change
A drain takes a few minutes, which is enough time for an experienced mechanic to spot a cracked serpentine belt, a swelling radiator hose, a battery terminal growing crust or a weeping valve cover gasket. These are the small things that turn into roadside breakdowns if nobody sees them.
If something needs attention, you get a quote on the spot and the option to have it done then or later. Many customers pair a mobile oil change with a tune-up or a belt replacement because the mechanic is already there and the car is already up.

06 — Cost
What a mobile oil change costs
Oil, filter and labor, quoted up front. The price depends mostly on the oil: full synthetic costs more than conventional, and large engines need more quarts. A mobile oil change is competitive with a quick-lube shop and usually cheaper than a dealership, with no shop overhead and no upsell at the counter. See the mobile mechanic cost page for the general math.
For fleets, ask about scheduled pricing for several vehicles in one visit. One trip, one invoice, and the vans never leave the lot.

Mobile oil change FAQ
Straight answers about mobile oil change: what it covers, what it costs and how fast a mobile mechanic can get to you.
Q.01Can you do a mobile oil change in an apartment parking lot?
Usually, yes. The mechanic uses a drain pan and catch mats, takes the used oil away and leaves no mess. If the complex has rules about vehicle work, mention it when you reach out.
Q.02Do you bring the right oil for my car?
Yes. Give the year, make, model and engine and the mechanic brings the manufacturer-specified oil weight and type and the correct filter.
Q.03How long does a mobile oil change take?
About thirty minutes including the inspection and fluid top-off. It's the easiest appointment on the calendar.
Q.04Can you reset the maintenance light?
Yes. The mechanic resets the oil life monitor as part of the service so the reminder tracks the new interval.
